Our Adventures in France...Day 11

Day 11 wasn't too busy of a day. We had an early tour inside the city walls of Avignon. It was definitely quieter than the night before.
The city walls of Avignon.
Trent enjoying the walk around the city.
The entire wall of this building was covered in greenery. There was even a sprinkler attached to the building that was watering the plants.
Such narrow streets. The narrow streets definitely don't slow the cars down.
A good rule of thumb.
Avignon Cathedral which is next to the Palais Des Papes (Palace of the Popes).
Inside the Roman Catholic Cathedral.
Again, the narrow streets and interesting buildings.
The Palace of the Popes. We took a tour inside and around the palace.
This is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe.
The construction of the palace began in 1252.
The Popes began to live there in 1309.
The chimney in the kitchen.
The Grand Chapel where the Popes worshiped.
The kids taking a break from the tour.
After the tour of the Palace of the Popes we walked around the city a bit more and then ended the tour right outside the city and saw the Pont de Saint-Benezet, which is a bridge over the Rhone River. Several arches of the bridge were broken by a flood.
After the city tour a few of us did some much needed shopping at the cute shops in Avignon. I bought some pretty Provence table clothes and runners. After shopping we headed back to the hotel for some rest and to enjoy the pool.
 Enjoying some drinks.
The pool was really cold, so only the kids, Tim and Scott ventured into the pool.
Trent playing his DS, his favorite past time.
Dinner time poolside at the hotel. We had dinner at 6:00 p.m., which was early for us on this vacation. I think it still was a two-hour dinner, but that was ok because we didn't have very far to walk.
This was our last night in Avignon. The next day we had to be up early for the long bus ride to Nice.
