Our Adventures in France...Day 12

Our vacation was winding down as we began Day 12 of this fantastic vacation. We would be traveling from Avignon to Cannes where we would stop for a short visit and then on to Nice where we would stay for the remainder of the trip. It was about a three hour bus ride to Cannes. We knew we had arrived in Cannes when we were stopped in bumper to bumper traffic from the off ramp of the freeway. We finally got close enough to our destination and hopped off the bus.
The theater where the famous Cannes Film Festival is held.
We walked along the dock to see the all the boats and yachts.
A castle on top of the hill.
The city of Cannes.
The pictures of these yachts do not show how big these yachts really were.
Most of the yachts were occupied by the crew that takes care of them.
 On the beach in Cannes.
Tim and Trent getting their feet wet.
Most of the beaches along the south coast of France are rocky, but Cannes imported sand for their beaches.
It was hot in Cannes and an ice cream always cool Trent down.
From Cannes we traveled 30 minutes to Grasse where we would be touring the Fragonard Perfumery.
The guide explaining the process of making the perfume.
The room where the perfume is filtered.
 Making soaps.
Trent playing a game of guessing what the smell is. He did pretty good.
Now the fun part buying the perfume.
After the visit at the perfumery we were on our way to Nice. While on the freeway we got pulled over by the police. We were told it was a routine check where the bus driver had to show the officer all is current paperwork and show him that his emergency equipment worked. That was about a 20 minute delay. Then the bus driver got lost trying to find the hotel, so it took us an hour longer to get to the hotel than we expected. The streets of Nice are not made for buses and the traffic was horrible. We finally made it to the Massena hotel. We were all glad to say good bye to our bus driver.
The view from our balcony.
Trent yelling from our balcony...Party rock is in the house tonight. He is such a nutball.
The streets of Nice.
On our way to find some dinner.
We found a very good Italian restaurant.
Zach tried and liked frog legs. Looks pretty gross to me, but I guess it tasted like chicken.
After dinner we walked along the boardwalk and watched the sunset.
This is the picture we posted on Facebook to announce that I was pregnant.
Cousins.
Lovebirds!
Nice is gorgeous at night.
Trent chilling in his bed playing DS before he calls it a night.
We had another great day in France. Nice was beautiful and the next day we would have the day all to ourselves. We couldn't wait to go to the beach and splash around in the Mediterranean Sea.

Our Adventures in France...Day 11

Day 11 wasn't too busy of a day. We had an early tour inside the city walls of Avignon. It was definitely quieter than the night before.
The city walls of Avignon.
Trent enjoying the walk around the city.
The entire wall of this building was covered in greenery. There was even a sprinkler attached to the building that was watering the plants.
Such narrow streets. The narrow streets definitely don't slow the cars down.
A good rule of thumb.
Avignon Cathedral which is next to the Palais Des Papes (Palace of the Popes).
Inside the Roman Catholic Cathedral.
Again, the narrow streets and interesting buildings.
The Palace of the Popes. We took a tour inside and around the palace.
This is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe.
The construction of the palace began in 1252.
The Popes began to live there in 1309.
The chimney in the kitchen.
The Grand Chapel where the Popes worshiped.
The kids taking a break from the tour.
After the tour of the Palace of the Popes we walked around the city a bit more and then ended the tour right outside the city and saw the Pont de Saint-Benezet, which is a bridge over the Rhone River. Several arches of the bridge were broken by a flood.
After the city tour a few of us did some much needed shopping at the cute shops in Avignon. I bought some pretty Provence table clothes and runners. After shopping we headed back to the hotel for some rest and to enjoy the pool.
 Enjoying some drinks.
The pool was really cold, so only the kids, Tim and Scott ventured into the pool.
Trent playing his DS, his favorite past time.
Dinner time poolside at the hotel. We had dinner at 6:00 p.m., which was early for us on this vacation. I think it still was a two-hour dinner, but that was ok because we didn't have very far to walk.
This was our last night in Avignon. The next day we had to be up early for the long bus ride to Nice.
