Open House

Last Thursday, it was Open House at Trent's school.  Trent had been talking about Open House for weeks and he was so excited to show his work to us.  He had a check list of all the things he had to show us.  He loved showing us his journal and all that he writes in it.  Each Monday, they have to write about their weekend, I loved seeing what he wrote.
Trent's snowflake is on the right.
 Trent's quilt.
 Trent's fish.
So happy to show us around.
Trent's poem about a seal.  Seals (Harp Seals) are his favorite animal.
Trent's book report on King Tut.

We had a great time at Open House and are so proud of Trent.  We ended the evening with ice cream at Baskin Robbins.  It was a good day!

Tehachapi

A few Fridays ago Trent had the day off from school, so we headed up to see my parents in Tehachapi.  We got up there in the early afternoon, had lunch, relaxed a bit and then did a little browsing around town.  While my Dad and Trent went to the train museum, my Mom and I went shopping.  We found some fabric at the local quilting store and then found a few things at the scrap-booking store.  After our shopping and the boys adventure at the train museum we treated ourselves to some sweets at the German Bakery.  Trent had a delicious chocolate chip cookie, my Mom and I split a piece of carrot cake and my Dad had a danish.  The sweets were delicious.
In late afternoon, we were relaxing around the house before we went to dinner. There was a fire going and we just enjoyed our time together.
We left by 9:00 a.m. the next morning.  The rain was already coming down and I wanted to make sure I was on the road home before they started to close the roads because of snow. My Dad called about 20 minutes after we left and it had started to snow at the house. We left just in the knick of time...thankfully. We did get stuck in traffic because of two accidents. After two and a half hours on the freeway I was happy to get home and out of the rain.

Saturday Fun Day!

While Tim was cycling 100 miles around Solvang on Saturday, Trent and I had some fun closer to home.  We started with lunch at Bun-N-Burger, which was yummy.  Then we took my new car to the car wash for the first time.  Since I have gotten the car I have been washing it myself, but it was time to get it vacuumed and professionally washed.  It looks so pretty now. After the car wash we went bowling.  We had so much fun.  We played four games and Trent beat me in all four games.  I even got 2 back to back strikes, but that didn't help my score much.  I will say that I think other than the last game he only beat me by a few points.

 My little bowler.
We enjoyed a yummy warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream.  It was so good!!  Trent didn't want to take his turn because he thought I would eat it all...he knows me so well.
After bowling we came home and played Toy Story Mania on the Wii for awhile. Then Trent got on his rollerblades and we headed down to the local elementary school where Trent enjoyed skating around.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Yosemite

It was about noon a few Fridays ago when I got a call from Tim asking if I would be upset if Trent and him headed up to Yosemite for the weekend?  I thought about it for a minute and really badly wanted to say yes because I had never been to Yosemite and neither had Trent, so I wanted to experience that with him too.  Then for another moment I thought well I am hosting Bunco tonight, so they have to be out of the house and then I am heading out to Oxnard for a girls' weekend, so can I really be that selfish and tell him yes I would be upset and not to go...no I couldn't and I told him figure out the logistics (meaning that you are not sleeping in a tent that is not heated), email me what needs to be packed and we will make it happen.  Even though I knew I was going to miss out on a great weekend with my boys, I knew they were going to have an amazing time exploring Yosemite.
Tim got home early that night and at about 6:00 p.m. they started their six hour drive to Yosemite.  Trent was so excited and I could tell Tim was too.  They got up to Yosemite around midnight and stayed in a "heated" tent.  The tent did have a heater, but by 2:00 a.m. Tim could tell that it wasn't working and it was freezing inside the tent.  Thankfully, they had warm sleeping bags and plenty of wool blankets.

The morning was a bit chilly.

Another first for Trent...ice skating. It just happened to be the last day that the ice skating rink was open.
I think the rollerblading helped him feel comfortable on the ice.
 Look at him go.
A cute video of Trent on the ice.
Trent found a friend to skate around with.
After ice skating they watched the sunset on North Dome and Half Dome.
 Dinner time!
 Love the hair!
My Mom had sent an email that day telling Tim and Trent to have a good time.  This is Trent's response to her.
After a long day of fun they snuggled up in their heated tent.
This time there really was heat.
Sunday morning they headed to Yosemite Falls.
Trent in front of the lower falls.
They also took a hike to Bridal Veils.

There was some boulder hopping involved.
Some dangerous boulder hopping!  Thank goodness I wasn't there.

They couldn't leave without doing some souvenir shopping.  Thankfully, Tim was able to steer Trent in a different direction and he didn't come home with the bear hat, but with a stuffed animal.
I loved hearing their stories about the weekend and can't wait to go with them next time!
