4th Grade Field Trip to San Diego

Trent and his class had been looking forward to this field trip to San Diego for awhile. It was all Trent could talk about the days following up to the trip. We were up early and at the school at 7:00 a.m. We departed by 7:30 a.m. and made our way to San Diego on a nice charter bus, so much better than a yellow school bus.
On our way to San Diego.
So excited to go to San Diego and to watch Despicable Me 1 on the drive.
Our first stop was the Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma.
Trent and Marcus checking out a battleship.
 Checking out the views.
Trent and Jonah enjoying watching the ships.
The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is the highest point in the park and has been a San Diego icon since 1855. The lighthouse was closed in 1891 because fog and low clouds often obscured the light at its location 422 feet above sea level. A new one opened at a lower elevation. The old lighthouse is now a museum and you can tour the living quarters.

Enjoying the time at the monument.
Listening to the tour guide and of course Trent has his hand raised to answer a question.
The kids loved the bunker. Trent was telling his friends that they should all go to France and see the bunkers at Normandy (he is one lucky kid).
 Pretending to shoot the enemies.
 The new lighthouse down below.
Juan Cabrillo was the first European to set foot on the West Coast of the United States in 1542.
Trent and Marcus checking out the exhibits.
After lunch at Home Town Buffet, which turned out to be the best option for the field trip. The kids were so excited to eat whatever they wanted. Trent loved that he had an icee along with his lunch of chicken nuggets, waffle fries, chips and jello.
So excited to be at the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
Jonah photobombing Trent's picture of the Navy jet. Love it!
 Checking out the helicopter.
The boys got in a tube that simulated a hurricane. The girls were much more animated than the boys. They weren't impressed by the simulator.
Flight simulator. Trent was disappointed that the jet didn't have any guns...he did have fun flying around San Diego.
After the Air & Space Museum we went to Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. The science center had some cool hands on exhibits, but it was a bit disappointing that about half the exhibits were under construction.
From the Science Center we traveled to Old Town San Diego to see the state's first public schoolhouse and 1825 Casa de Estudillo, which was one of the finest adobe haciendas.
From Old Town San Diego we went to Sea Port village where we had dinner and Trent was obsessed with finding a toy store that had Pokemon cards...and he wasn't the only one on the hunt for Pokemon cards. We did find a toy store, but they didn't have Pokemon cards, oh well. From Sea Port village we headed home. The kids were so excited to watch another movie on the way home. The pick for the ride home was Madagascar 3. The noise level was much lower on the way home, everyone was tired and watched the movie.
It was a long day (and I had such a killer headache), but it was a great day. Trent had so much fun and I just love spending time with him and making memories.
